Sara Stanley, Bed (hons) Cambridge, specialises in creating philosophical worlds in the classroom. Using a year long story curriculum she entices the children to create their own journey through one story, many books and even more dialogues and enquiries based on their everyday play, language and storytelling. Alongside the year long story Sara Stanley shares her passion for picture books to develop all aspects of creative learning and thinking.
In order to become effective young philosophers children think and learn in a story environment of their making. Their words, ideas and actions form the stimulus for play based philosophical enquiries to discover such things as; “Where has the real me gone?”, “How can we play with something that’s not real?”, “Is nothing but a speck of dust something or nothing”? Examples of year long stories she has used include; Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Aladdin and Snow White.
Using a combination of tried and tested techniques and practical resources Sara Stanley develops philosophical skills to enable children from as young as 3 to become critical thinkers and facilitators of ordered and structured dialogue, storytelling and role play. Sara Stanley offers a range of training opportunities and publications to create truly enquiring minds. She is a registered level one SAPERE Trainer and half of the successful childrenthinking consultancy with Maria Cornish based in Norwich Norfolk.
Sara Stanley is a National and International keynote speaker and runs workshops, Insets and courses in Philosophy for Children (P4C) and enabling enquiry based classroom environments. Her work is cited as inspirational, practical and rooted in thorough, intuitive understanding of how children think and learn.
